Tis The Season...Tissue Box Covers

Excited about this super fun creative team project featured on the SOC (Scraps of Color) blog today. It seems like everyone around me is sneezing, coughing and blowing their nose!! I thought it was so appropriate to use my craftiness and try my hand at covering tissue boxes. Always fun to make someones day a little brighter!!

Follow along with this picture tutorial and start personalizing your Kleenex boxes today!

I used the Kleenex brand box of tissue. It was $1.97 at Weis market.

You will want to select your card stock and patterned paper or just card stock. Whatever floats your boat. Cut the following pieces. Base - (2) 5 1/8 x 9 1/2. Lid (1) 6 9/16 square. Patterned paper panels (4) 4 1/4 x 4. Patterned paper lid panels (4) 4 1/4 x 3/4. Top layer of lid (1) 4 1/4 square. I used CTMH card stock and Seaside paper.

Take your (2) 5 1/8 x 9 1/2 panels and score at 1/2 and 5 inches. This will be the two pieces we attach together to make the box.

Take the  6 9/16 lid and score at 1 inch on all four sides.

Crease your scored lines with your bone folder.

I took my (4) 4 1/4 x 3/4 inch lid panels and adhered them to all four sides of the lid. I used my Spellbinder die and traced and cut out a center.

I cut the corners diagonally across the square and removed a piece so when adhered it wouldn't be so bulky in the corners.

Here is a piece with the center cut out.

I then took the (1) 4 1/4 piece of card stock and ran it through my Big Shot.

I centered and adhered the die cut piece on top of the lid.

I adhered the corners to the inside of the box and my lid was completed.

I took my (2) 5 1/8 x 9 1/2 and attached the short edge to the end of the straight edge making one continous long piece with panels. I distressed the folds and patterned paper with Desert Sand ink. I adhered the paper to the panels.

The final step to construct the box was adhering the last 1/2 inch tab to the straight edge.

You now have your box and lid. I ended up putting adhesive on the inside 4 sides of the lid and securing when I placed it on top of the box. Now you get to have some fun and embellish as you see fit!! The completed box will slide over top of the Kleenex box.

Here are some close ups of my embellishments.
I used my CTMH Artiste cricut cart for the bow. The shape is cut from the CTMH Art Philosophy cricut cart. The stamp set is Have A Happy Day. The design is from the Idea Book minus the washi, bow and sequence.

I used one of my favorite washi tapes and did some rock and rolling stamping on the flower.

Here is another one I made using card stock instead of the patterned paper. If you look closely you will see I embossed the panel pieces of card stock and ran ink over the raised embossed image. I colored the stamped image, which came from A Little Note stamp set, with Shinhan Touch Twin markers. The patterned paper is Hopscotch and I embossed with the Quatrefoil embossing folder.
